I’m Breanna Olaveson. I am an award-winning journalist, author, and copywriter based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I have a passion for learning, reading, and writing about almost any topic—especially American history, literature, politics, and (always) Harry Potter—but I also enjoy learning new things and writing on topics I might not naturally gravitate toward (like crop yield-increasing technology and point-of-sale software—both true stories!).
I am a thorough researcher and passionate historian. I have published two nonfiction books with the premise of making history relevant and engaging.
I am also a lover of books and a lifelong advocate of childhood literacy. This passion took me and my family across the ocean to London, where I earned a Master of Arts in creative writing and publishing and graduated with distinction from City, University of London.
I am also a married mother of four with first-hand experience and knowledge of parenting, relationships, work-life balance, Parent-Teacher Associations, volunteerism, remote work, and children’s literature.
While my primary writing focus has recently shifted from business-centric to more creative pieces, one thing will always stay the same—my love for discovering a story and sharing it with the world.
With extensive training in both journalism (BA, 2010) and publishing (MA, 2025), I have also gained experience in both print and electronic design and formatting. My tools of choice are Adobe InDesign and WordPress.
When I’m not writing, I’m probably on the porch reading a book, hanging out with my big kids, or enjoying an hour at the gym.
